The Plateau State Governor, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong has restated the commitment of his administration to deal with recent attacks by gunmen in the state before his exit from office on 29th May –  nine days away.

Lalong made this known shortly after the fourth convocation ceremony of the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai, Niger State where he was conferred with an honorary doctorate degree in Administration.

He explained that his government would not fold its hands and watch citizens of the state killed, maimed and displaced.

The attack is said to have claimed 117 lives, many others injured and 20,000 people displaced in the state.

He stated that measures are being taken to nip insecurity in the bud, saying state security agencies are already addressing the recent issue of insecurity.

According to him, “in the past eight years, I have restored peace in the Plateau, unfortunately, I am taking my exit and the criminals are beginning to rear their heads again. I am capable of handling them before I take my exit and I will continue to pray for peace on the Plateau”.

On the International Displaced Persons, he said: “They are being taken care of and we have jets flying all over the affected communities and local government areas”.
