After last Sunday’s exit from the CAF Confederation Cup, Rivers United will now have to face the outstanding fixtures they accumulated while on continental assignment. The first of the three rescheduled games will be played next Wednesday (10th May) away in Bauchi to Wikki Tourists, who are at the bottom of Group B of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

According a statement on Wednesday by the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the NPFL, the committee is working towards concluding the 2022/23 NPFL season before the 29th May inauguration of the new federal administration.

Apart from the Matchday 15 tie, Rivers United also have matches with Sunshine Stars  and Doma United, both at home. IMC said that new dates for games would be announced in the days ahead.

The IMC also said that the Super 6 playoff, which will produce the champions, has been scheduled tentatively to hold at the Mobolaji Bank Anthony Arena, Onikan, Lagos. It would commence on Friday 19th May.

IMC Head of Operations, Davidson Owumi said that the fixture principles have already been articulated with the Group A and B winners opening the contest.

“The Group A matches would be concluded on Sunday, 14th May and we are looking forward to having the other two outstanding matches of Rivers United completed within the available windows to ensure that Group B last fixtures are held before the Playoff kickoff date”, Owumi told IMC Media.

The IMC statement further said: “An advisory has been communicated to all clubs to put them on notice and getting them to plan their logistics to honour the fixtures as may be announced by the league organisers”.
