The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) branch, has appealed to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to urgently implement the Federal Government-ASUU agreement as it affects the institution.

The union made the appeal in an open letter addressed to the governor, where it commended his administration for efforts in education, infrastructure development and governance, while also calling attention to unresolved welfare issues affecting academic staff.

In the letter, ASUU-LASUSTECH appreciated the governor’s continued commitment to advancing education in the state. According to the union, the administration’s focus on excellence, institutional growth and infrastructural development has been recognised by members of the academic community.

ASUU-LASUSTECH noted that the strides recorded under the present administration have helped to create a better environment for teaching, research and innovation within the state-owned university.

The union described itself as proud members of Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Ikorodu, adding that the institution remains important to the educational and technological advancement of Lagos State.

The lecturers said there was an urgent need for the state government to implement the Federal Government-ASUU agreement, especially in areas that directly affect state-owned tertiary institutions.

They explained that the agreement covers major issues such as staff welfare, earned academic allowances, funding for revitalisation of universities, and improved working conditions for lecturers.

The union stated that addressing the matters remained essential to preserving quality teaching, academic stability and the long-term growth of higher education.

According to the lecturers, swift implementation of the agreement would improve staff morale and raise productivity across the institution.

They added that prompt action would also help to reduce industrial tensions and create a more peaceful learning environment for both workers and students.

The union further argued that improved welfare for lecturers would positively impact students through better teaching delivery, stronger supervision, and increased commitment to academic duties.

It said members remained committed to supporting the governor’s vision for a greater Lagos, but stressed that such a vision could only be fully achieved when the welfare and concerns of university workers are properly addressed.

The lecturers appealed to the governor’s sense of fairness and leadership, expressing confidence in his commitment to excellence and development.

They urged him to give urgent attention to the matter in the interest of peace, progress and continued growth of higher education in Lagos State.

The union also restated its appreciation to the governor for what it described as his unwavering dedication to the development of the state.
