Manchester United have been urged to sign Napoli defender Kim Min-jae this summer.

Former Liverpool star John Barnes believes that the South Korean would be a good replacement for Raphael Varane, who, according to him, won’t stay at Old Trafford forever.

He said the South Korean would form a long-term partnership with Lisandro Martinez in the heart of United’s defence.

Manchester United are in pursuit of the defender who replaced Kalilou Koulibaly at the Italian side following the Senegalese’s move to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2022.

The South Korean reportedly has a €50 million release clause in his contract, which Barnes believes should not be a problem for the Red Devils to meet.

“A move for Kim Min-jae would be great for United and Varane. Also, it hasn’t quite worked out for Harry Maguire, so they will be looking to find a long-term partner for Lisandro Martinez,” he told MyBettingSites.

“Kim Min-jae is aggressive, he’s strong, and he’s done well at Napoli. So he would be a very good signing. So for the future, he would be a very good signing”.

Erik ten Hag is keen on bringing in a defender, as captain Maguire was a bench warmer at the club in the recently concluded season.
