The Academic Board of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has asked 273 students to withdraw, as it expelled six others over examination malpractices.
The decision was taken when the board considered and approved the first semester results for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The institution’s Director of Public Relations and Protocol, Uredo Omale, in a statement on Monday, said this was part of the decisions reached at the 120th meeting of the board held on Thursday, 17 April 2025, at the boardroom of the polytechnic main campus in Lokoja.
‘The chairman of the board, Prof Salisu Ogbo Usman, commended members of the Academic Board Result Verification Committee, led by the Deputy Rector, Dr Samuel Taiwo Olowo, for due diligence on the results and charged them to sustain the tempo’.
He, however, expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of some students which led to their withdrawal, despite providing a conducive atmosphere for learning.
She said the withdrawals spread across 20 departments and 42 programmes, including Business Administration, Accountancy, Fine Art, Building Technology, Civil Engineering and Computer Science.
Other affected departments were Animal Health and Production, Library Science, Mass Communication, Office Technology and Management.
Six students were expelled from the polytechnic on account of examination misconduct and related offences.
The board approved the expulsion, having been satisfied with the reports of the Central Examination Misconduct Committee led by Dr (Mrs) Grace Ehimony.
The duo of Daniel Onuche Gabriel (2024/HND/BUS/026) from the Department of Business Administration and Yaro Abdullahi Nma (2024/ND/ACCT/081) from the Department of Accountancy were expelled for impersonation, contravening Section 4:35 (19) of the 2021 Revised Edition of the Students’ Information Handbook.
Also, Jaja Julietu (2022/ND/MAS/098), Usman Abdulgeniyu (2022/ND/MAS/015), Gimba Aminat (2022/ND/MAS/026/ and Otitoju Taiwo Timilehin (2023/ND/MAS/161), all from Department of Mass Communication, were approved for expulsion, after being caught with extraneous materials during examination, thereby contravening Section 4.35 (9) of the 2021 Revised Edition of the Students’ Information Handbook.
Prof Usman commended the committee and others for a thorough job just as he called for sustained synergy among the committees to make decisive resolutions capable of sustaining the quality of teaching and learning at the polytechnic.
He reassured the polytechnic community of the board and management’s continued resolve to make reforms that would be of great benefit to the institution.
