The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the reported directive by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to Mr. Peter Obi over his 2027 presidential ambition as a failed political arrangement, labelling it a ‘coalition without democracy, fairness or future’.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Lagos State APC spokesperson, Hon. Seye Oladejo, reacted to the ADC’s public call for Obi to clarify his political intentions.

Oladejo said the development reflected deep confusion within the opposition, accusing the ADC of lacking ideology and clear direction.

‘Nigeria woke up to yet another episode of opposition disarray and ideological bankruptcy as the African Democratic Congress publicly ordered Peter Obi to ‘make up his mind’ on his 2027 ambition, while simultaneously declaring that zoning is not on the table’, the statement read.

‘This is not strategy. This is confusion on steroids. A political party that cannot decide its soul, direction or destination now wants to decide the fate of Nigeria.

‘What Nigerians are witnessing is not opposition politics, but a public quarrel inside a hollow coalition of contradictions’, he added.

The APC criticised what it described as inconsistent positions by the ADC, saying the party had moved from rejecting zoning to issuing ultimatums to the same aspirant it once projected as a leading figure.

‘What exactly do they want? Power without structure? Victory without a plan? Leadership without clarity? the statement queried.

The ruling party further alleged that the ADC had been structured to serve the personal ambition of a single individual, adding that Obi was now caught in the middle of internal contradictions.

According to the APC, the ADC’s declaration that zoning was ‘not on the table’ suggested that its presidential candidacy had already been decided internally, with other members merely recruited to create the appearance of inclusion.

‘It is a coalition without democracy, without fairness and without future — a political engineering tailor-made to fail’, the statement said.

On Obi’s political strategy, the APC claimed he had adopted a pattern of positioning himself to benefit from distressed political platforms rather than openly contesting.

‘This is not political organisation. This is political lottery masquerading as strategy’, it added.

The APC also warned the opposition to stop what it called attempts to distract President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with “needless politicking and manufactured drama.”

‘At this critical juncture, it has become expedient to warn the opposition to stop distracting Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The President remains steadily, courageously and competently poised to overcome Nigeria’s challenges’, the statement said.

It noted that the APC was focused on governance, insisting that its achievements across infrastructure, economy, security, education, health and transportation would speak for themselves when the time for campaigns arrived.

The party concluded by declaring that the ADC–Obi confrontation was no longer an internal issue but ‘a public confession of collapse’, insisting that ‘2027 is not for confused coalitions, political experiments, or unprepared leadership’.
