Local council, NGO partner on wealth creation initiative for Odogbolu youths

The Chairman of Odogbolu Local Government Area, Hon. Ladejobi Shuaib has assured of his administration’s commitment to willingness to partner with Detola Abike Mogaji Memorial Foundation (DAMMF) and Havas Nigeria in its wealth creation initiative in the area.

Shuaib, who was represented by the council’s Vice Chairman, Hon. Ireti Adenugba at the training/sensitisation programme at the organisation last Thursday in Odogbolu, Ogun State, said the project is welcome addition to the capacity-building landscape, which is coming at “a most appropriate time, a period that required urgent and ambitious solutions to the lingering national problems of unemployment and unemployability”.

The wealth creation scheme is a partnership programme of Odogbolu Local Government Council, DAMMF and Havas Nigeria, a marketing solution company. It is aimed at engaging and training dozens of youths in the customer relationship and financial management sector with successful trainees certified and having internship opportunity with  financial institutions towards becoming staff of the organisations.

The LG Chairman stressed his administration’s commitment to encourage public-private partnership in wealth creation, an arrangement that would bring in non-profit organisations domiciled within the local government area. This, he explained, is in order to empower and strengthen the teeming youths of the area.

In his remarks, the promoter of DAMMF, Mr Mogaji Olatunde said the primary objective of the wealth creation scheme is create jobs for the teeming youths of the local government, as well as address the significant skills gaps in Nigeria.

An aspirant for Odogbolu state constituency of Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon Oguntade Oluwaseun urged the youths in the area to be up and doing to take up the opportunity to create a means of livelihood for themselves and shun social vices.

Also, the Director of Operations at Havas Nigeria, Mr Dare Oyegbola said: “It is our belief that initiatives like this will strive to make the youths more employable in today’s work space and foster financial inclusion and entrepreneurial opportunities for young people in Odogbolu Local Government. This will give them an environment that will enable them earn, while communicating and sensitising the people on the importance of being prudent.
