In a show of commitment to the welfare of pensioners in Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the payment of N206 million in gratuities to 92 pensioners. The cheques were presented to the beneficiaries by the Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Hon. Adeniyi Adebisi, during an interactive session with the executives of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP), Oyo State Chapter.

The pensioners, who include retirees from the state, local government, and primary schools, expressed their gratitude to Governor Makinde for fulfilling his promise. The payment of the gratuities is seen as a step towards improving the lives of pensioners in the state.

Hon. Adebisi emphasized the importance of cooperation between the Nigerian Union of Pensioners and the Ministry of Establishments and Training. He stated that the ministry is currently working on reviewing pensions as directed by the governor. The commissioner also highlighted the government’s belief in dialogue as a means of resolving issues, rather than resorting to industrial action.

Comrade Olusegun Abatan, the State Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, commended the governor for fulfilling his promise to resume the payment of gratuity. He expressed optimism that the 13-point agenda presented by the union would be executed one after the other, especially with the ongoing pension review.

The beneficiaries expressed their appreciation to Makinde for paying their gratuities during these challenging economic times. They prayed for more wisdom for the governor in leading the state forward.

Overall, this move by Governor Makinde demonstrates his commitment to prioritizing the welfare and well-being of civil servants and retirees in Oyo State.
