The Nigerian Forest Security Service (NFSS) is set to hold its Monthly General Meeting on Friday, 26 June 2026, with renowned journalist, public relations strategist, and media entrepreneur Mr. Muyiwa Akintunde billed to deliver the keynote lecture on “Building Public Trust”.
The meeting, scheduled for 10 am at the NFSS National Office, National Stadium, Lagos, is expected to bring together officers, executives, and stakeholders of the service to deliberate on strategies for strengthening public confidence, enhancing communication, and promoting professionalism within the organisation.
According to the event flyer, the lecture will focus on strengthening relationships, enhancing communication, and building confidence in the NFSS’s services, in line with the organisation’s core values of discipline, integrity, service and excellence.
Akintunde’s selection as guest speaker reflects his extensive experience spanning over four decades in journalism, public relations, corporate communications, brand management, and media leadership.
Widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s respected communication professionals, Akintunde began his journalism career at The Guardian in 1986 before moving through several prestigious media organisations, including TimesWeek magazine, Newswatch magazine, Theweek magazine, The Post Express, and the UK-based pan-African publication Africa Today, where he served as Managing Editor for West Africa.
His career later transitioned into public relations and strategic communications, where he occupied senior management positions at leading communications consultancies, including C&F Porter Novelli and MarketingMix, one of Nigeria’s foremost brand communications firms, which received the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) Lagos Chapter’s Best PR Agency Award in 2010.
In 2012, he established Leap Communications Limited, a public relations consultancy providing strategic communication solutions for corporate organisations and institutions.
Despite his transition into public relations, Akintunde maintained his passion for journalism and, in February 2022, founded Breezy NewsNG, an online newspaper committed to ethical journalism, factual reporting, and professional standards.
Beyond media practice, he has built a reputation as a trainer and mentor, contributing significantly to capacity development in journalism, public relations, and brand management.
He is a member of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, and formerly served as Vice President of the Public Relations Consultants Association of Nigeria, where he coordinated the association’s flagship professional development initiative, the PRCAN Mastering PR Series.
Akintunde is also an accomplished author. His latest book, “Tunji Braithwaite: Fearless. Compassionate. Selfless, chronicling the life and legacy of the late social justice advocate and politician, Dr. Tunji Braithwaite, was launched in Abuja during the 10th memorial anniversary of the renowned activist.
Observers believe his lecture will provide valuable insights into the role of effective communication, transparency, accountability, and stakeholder engagement in building public confidence in security institutions.
As security agencies increasingly recognise that public trust is fundamental to intelligence gathering, community policing, and operational success, the lecture is expected to equip NFSS officers with practical strategies to strengthen relationships with communities and enhance the Service’s public image.
The Monthly General Meeting forms part of the NFSS’s continuous professional development programme aimed at improving institutional effectiveness while promoting ethical leadership and service excellence in securing Nigeria’s forests and rural communities.
