The Oyo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has revised the 2025/2026 academic calendar for public primary and secondary schools, announcing that classes will resume on Monday, July 6, for the continuation of the current academic session.
The revised timetable was contained in a circular dated July 2, 2026, and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs. B.T. Oyinloye.
According to the circular, the current academic term will run for six weeks, ending on Friday, August 14, 2026.
Following the completion of the term, students and teachers will proceed on a four-week vacation scheduled to begin on Monday, August 17, and end on Friday, September 11, 2026.
The ministry also confirmed that the first term of the 2026/2027 academic session will commence on Monday, September 14, 2026.
The revised calendar applies to all public primary and secondary schools across Oyo State and forms part of efforts by the ministry to restore the academic schedule after recent disruptions.
The adjustment comes in the wake of a month-long industrial action by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), which led to the closure of public primary and secondary schools across the state from June 1, 2026.
The strike was triggered by the abduction of teachers and pupils in Oriire Local Government Area, prompting widespread disruption to academic activities before classes were eventually cleared to resume.
