A group of Ogun State indigenes and professionals based in the United States has endorsed the governorship candidacy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, ahead of the state’s governorship election campaign.
In a statement issued in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, the USA Ogun State Indigenes and Professionals Forum pledged its support for Adeola, saying it would work with him and his team to strengthen diaspora engagement, attract investment, promote policy initiatives and support programmes aimed at the sustainable development of Ogun State.
The statement was signed by the Chairperson of the Forum’s Board of Trustees, Chief Adeniyi Olukayode Oridate; the President and Chief Executive Officer, Aare Stanford Aderibigbe Stanford; and the Secretary-General, Ogbeni Rotimi Oyekanmi.
The Forum said its members remained committed to the peace, progress and prosperity of Ogun State, while emphasising the role of the diaspora in driving development through professional expertise, investment, policy engagement, education, healthcare, technology, agriculture, youth empowerment and economic partnerships.
It described Adeola’s emergence as the APC governorship candidate as an important milestone, attributing it to his years of public service, legislative experience, political maturity and commitment to the development of Ogun State and the country.
The group expressed confidence in Adeola’s ability to build on the achievements of the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, saying the state required continuity, competence, accountability, innovation and inclusive leadership to sustain its development.
The Forum also commended the leadership and members of the APC for backing Adeola’s candidacy, saying their support reflected confidence in his capacity to unite the party and present a development-focused agenda for Ogun State.
It further praised Governor Abiodun for supporting Adeola’s emergence as the party’s candidate, describing his commitment to continuity, party cohesion and the state’s future development as commendable.
The group called on Ogun residents at home and in the diaspora, party leaders, traditional rulers, professional associations, youth and women’s groups, community and business leaders, as well as other stakeholders, to support a peaceful, issue-based and development-oriented electoral process.
