Ogun to liaise with family on Alaba Lawson’s burial arrangements

The Ogun State Government has expressed readiness to collaborate with the family of late Iyalode of Yorubaland, Iyalode Alaba Lawson in working out a befitting burial for the renowned educationist and entrepreneur who passed on Saturday, 28th October 2023

In a statement on Tuesday, the media adviser of the Lawson family, Prince Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji said that Governor Dapo Abiodun gave the assurance when he visited the children of late Iyalode at the family residence in Quarry Road, Abeokuta.

The statement added that the governor said that a committee would be set up to liase with the family in preparation for the burial in due course, emphasising that the deceased deserves a befitting burial in view of her remarkable contributions to the society

“We are setting up a committee of the state to interface with the family so that we can begin to plan the final rights to give Mama a very befitting passing. We will be with you throughout this very trying period”, Abiodun was quoted saying

The governor pointed out that the late Iyalode was many things to many people, who during her life time was a very hard working and principled woman, who called spade a spade

He emphasised that late Lawson, a well-known philanthropist was a passionate and selfless woman, who championed the rights of women, adding that her legacy will continue to remain as reference point

On Sunday, the family announced December 8 as burial, a programme scheduled to hold between 1st – 8th December, with number of line up activities to celebrate the woman in Abeokuta, her hometown.

Kayode-Adedeji said on Sunday said that the burial announcement followed a meeting by the family held on Sunday, adding that a committee has been set up to finetune the programme of events.
