A frontline monarch in Osun State, Oba Hammed Adekunle Makama Oyelude, Tegbosun lll, the Olowu of Kuta kingdom has expressed doubt over the preparedness, readiness and maturity of Nigeria society for the adoption of state police.

The monarch while speaking on Osun State Correspondent Chapel personality interview programme tagged: “News Point” in his palace yesterday noted that state police will likely end up as tools in the hands of politicians for political vendetta.

He said he would rather recommend equipment of Nigeria Police in terms of manpower, logistics, provision of sophisticated weapons among others for optimal performance adding that their remuneration should also be upgraded.

He called for the reduction of focus on the military for internal security saying that the police is the lead actor in internal security while the primary function of the military is the protection of the state against external aggression and International intervention.

He advised that Nigeria should only embrace International intervention in our internal security in terms of funding, provision of weapons among others but warned against the deployment of personnel for our internal security.

Oba Oyelude called on traditional rulers, particularly in Yorubaland to be alive to their responsibility of upholding the tradition and custom of their communities adding that their destiny is tied to their kingdom.

His words: “There are serious implications in the failure to observe the path of culture and tradition by traditional rulers. Their destiny is tied to their kingdom. We vowed to protect the tradition and custom of our land before we were installed and any attempt to deviate will surely attract consequence”.

The monarch called for the support of the present administration saying that the pains of today hopefully would be the gains of tomorrow.
