The Owa Obokun Adimula, His Imperial Majesty Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, has felicitated with the new Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, on his ascension to the highly revered throne.

A member of the Agunloye Ruling House, and direct descendant of Alaafin Atiba, Oba Owoade was installed amid pomp as the 46th Alaafin in the ancient city of Oyo last Saturday. The event drew dignitaries from across the world and demographics.

In the message personally signed by him, the Owa, who is also the paramount ruler of Ijesaland, heartily congratulated Oba Owoade on his historic ascension to the throne, wishing him a long and peaceful reign.

The Owa regretted that he could not attend the epochal event because he is currently observing a mandatory 90-day seclusion (ipebi). But he recalled the bond between the Alaafin and the Owa Obokun, which dates back to the evolution of the Yoruba race, and enthused that it was ‘gratifying to note that our forefathers succeeded in sustaining this great legacy of kinship, brotherliness and brotherhood’.

Owa Haastrup, therefore, prayed for divine enablement for Oba Owoade, to provide the leadership desired for and by the people of his kingdom and the entire Yoruba race.

Also, the Palace of the Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, has informed the public on how the new Owa should be officially addressed henceforth.

In a statement on behalf of the Coronation Committee on Sunday, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Sub-committee, Chief Shola Oshunkeye said that the paramount ruler should be addressed in all correspondences and communications as follows: ‘His Royal Majesty, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III; Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland’.

A Fellow of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Oshunkeye said that the clarification ‘is to forestall any ambiguity and discordance in reportage, correspondences and communications on all matters concerning the Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland.

‘The Palace appreciates maximum cooperation on this matter’.
