Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week leave approved by President Bola Tinubu, his first official break since the administration took office on 29 May 2023.
The announcement was made on Thursday in Abuja by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, who said the leave is intended to allow the Vice President time for study and reflection.
According to Nkwocha, the period will enable Shettima to review the administration’s ongoing programmes, assess key policy priorities and strengthen his understanding of emerging national and global issues.
He said the exercise is aimed at enhancing the Vice President’s capacity as the Federal Government continues the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Nkwocha noted that since assuming office, Shettima has remained actively involved in coordinating and supervising several strategic government initiatives spanning economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.
He added that the Vice President has chaired meetings of the National Economic Council, the intergovernmental body comprising the governors of the 36 states, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and other senior public officials responsible for deliberating on major economic and development policies.
The presidential aide also highlighted Shettima’s role in representing Nigeria at international and regional engagements on behalf of President Tinubu.
According to him, the Vice President has promoted Nigeria’s interests in areas including economic integration, peace and security, climate action, investment and sustainable development.
Nkwocha said Shettima has remained committed to supporting the President’s agenda and contributing to efforts aimed at building a more secure, productive and prosperous nation.
He added that the Vice President is expected to resume official duties at the end of the two-week leave.
