Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has welcomed President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the dispute between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Osun State Government, describing it as a significant moment.
The musician, who is a nephew of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, reacted after the President reportedly directed the EFCC to seek the reversal of a court order that froze the state government’s bank account.
Responding to the development in a post on X on Thursday, Davido wrote: “I was there live! I witnessed history!!!”
The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed that Tinubu informed Governor Adeleke of the directive during a telephone conversation on Thursday. According to Onanuga, the President instructed the anti-graft agency to return to court and apply for the order freezing the account to be set aside.
The intervention followed criticism over the EFCC’s decision to freeze the Osun State Government’s account over alleged financial irregularities, a move that sparked opposition from the state government.
Tinubu was said to have expressed concern about the timing of the action, noting that it came just days before the 15 August governorship election in Osun State.
Davido had earlier declared his support for Governor Adeleke’s re-election bid, sharing photographs of the pair on social media with the caption: “We got this #aadeleke_01 God got us.”
The singer’s latest remarks came as political activities intensify ahead of the governorship poll, with the President’s intervention adding a new dimension to the controversy surrounding the dispute between the EFCC and the Osun State Government.
