President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Mrs Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, on her election as the first elected female President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), describing her emergence as a landmark moment for Nigeria’s legal profession.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised Badejo-Okusanya’s career, highlighting her integrity, professionalism and commitment to justice as qualities that earned her the confidence of lawyers across the country.
Tinubu said her election reflected the growing recognition of the contributions of women to nation-building and the administration of justice, expressing confidence that her leadership would strengthen the legal profession and support reforms aimed at improving access to justice.
He urged the new NBA president to work with stakeholders to advance judicial reforms, uphold the Constitution and preserve the legal profession’s role as a key pillar of democracy.
“I extend my hearty congratulations to the President-elect of the NBA for her victory. As the first elected female president of the Association of Lawyers in Nigeria, Mrs Badejo-Okusanya has made history,” Tinubu said.
“She has once again shown that our women can attain any heights in pursuit of excellence in their careers and ambitions, both in the private sector and in public service.”
The President also encouraged Badejo-Okusanya to engage with other contestants, promote unity within the Bar and address any concerns arising from the election process.
“I urge you to reach out to the other contestants, unify the Bar and make efforts to correct issues that arose during your election,” he said.
Tinubu wished the new NBA president a successful tenure and pledged his administration’s continued cooperation with the association in promoting justice, strengthening democratic governance and contributing to national development.
