Wamakko invests N800m in varsity students home, abroad

As part of his philanthropic efforts to ensure the provision of quality education for indigent children in the state, former Sokoto State governor, Senator Aliyu Wamakko has added 17 undergraduate students to his scholarship roll, to study at the University of Lahore, Republic of Pakistan.

While the first batch of 25 students who were sent to study undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Pakistan have graduated with flying colors, the 17 students will undergo various degree courses mostly Sciences, Information Technology and Engineering, among other related fields.

Cumulatively, Wamakko, who represents Sokoto North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, has spent over N819 million on the sponsorship of 600 children of the poor and less privileged to study within and outside the country from 2015 to 2023.

The Director of Administration of the Senatorial District liaison office, Alhaji Almustspha Abubakar Alkali; and Senior Legislative Assistant, Ahmed Baba Altine stated that the senator sponsored 116 students to study various courses in United States of America, the United Kingdom, Cyprus, Malaysia and Bangladesh during the period/

Wamakko currently has students under his scholarship undergoing studies at Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, Al-Qalam University Katsina State, Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State, Al-Hikmah and Crown Hill Universities Ilorin, Kwara State.

Others are also undergoing studies outside Nigeria at Maryam Abacha American University, Maradi, ISFOP at Benin Republic, Islamic University, Uganda, Sudan Academy for Aviation Sciences and Technology, Islamic University of Niger, Saye, Niger Republic.

Wamakko has also sponsored the first and second batches of 54 students to study for their postgraduate Degrees (Masters and PhDs) in various fields of studies at Nigeria Defence Academy, Kaduna, Kaduna State.

Wamakko has just established the first private University in Sokoto State named, North West University, Sokoto, that has commenced academic activities with 200 students.
