Nollywood actress and media personality Toke Makinwa has shared her views on financial compatibility in relationships, arguing that couples are more likely to enjoy stable relationships when they date within their financial class.

Speaking during a recent episode of the MENtality podcast hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Makinwa said financial disparity in relationships can create unnecessary challenges, particularly when individuals pursue partners whose lifestyles exceed their earning capacity.

According to the actress, many men leave their financial comfort zones in pursuit of women they cannot realistically afford, only to later accuse women of being materialistic.

“I am a big believer of dating within your age and within your class. That way there will not be stories that touch. You will have a good girl at home, a girl who will even make dinner with her own money when you don’t have. Yet, some men will still want to cheat on her with a woman they can’t afford,” she said.

Makinwa also cautioned women about judging a partner solely by his financial situation at the beginning of a relationship, arguing that financial success often reveals a person’s true character rather than changing it.

“Heaven forbid you end up with a guy who hasn’t blown. The day he blows, that is when you will know his true personality. And that scares women. Money doesn’t change people; it just reveals who the person is. So many men are treating women who sacrificed everything for them badly,” she added.

Her comments have sparked discussions on social media about financial compatibility, expectations in relationships and the role of money in shaping long-term partnerships.
