A resurfaced video featuring Nigerian billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote’s three daughters has sparked reactions online after Halima Dangote said she and her sisters were not “spoilt” despite growing up in a wealthy family.
The video, which was widely shared on X on Saturday, was taken from Bloomberg’s Next Africa special featuring Halima, Mariya and Fatima Dangote. The interview was filmed at the family’s home in Lagos and published by Bloomberg in August 2026.
In the clip, Halima explained that she and her sisters had deliberately maintained a low public profile, preferring to allow their professional achievements to speak for them.
“We are not spoilt,” she said.
She explained that the sisters did not typically draw attention to their family background when interacting with peers, including the children of their father’s friends.
“Any time we meet with our co-peers — like the kids of our dad’s friends, or people that we’re supposed to — we don’t… I mean, everyone has his own job. We are more… we’re quiet in the sense that we don’t say who we are,” she said.
Halima added that the sisters had become more recognisable over time, but said they previously found it easier to remain out of the spotlight.
“It was easier when we were not recognised; you know, our results speak for themselves,” she said.
She also noted that, unlike some people who are comfortable with social media and public attention, she and her sisters were not inclined to display their wealth or possessions publicly.
“I don’t think we are — all three of us are not expressive of what we have or what we own or what we’re doing,” she said.
According to Halima, the sisters preferred to be assessed based on their professional performance and the results of their work.
“I think, like Fatima and Mariya said, the results are just the ones speaking for themselves: the sale of this business, the profit of this, the EBITDA, our growth, growing to $100 billion. We are all in those key positions and, I mean, numbers don’t lie,” she added.
