The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is set to arrive in China any moment from now for a series of official engagements aimed at improving water supply to satellite towns within the territory.

According to a statement released on Thursday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the minister is currently in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), en route to China.

During his visit, he said Wike is expected to hold meetings with officials of the China Geo-Engineering Corporation Overseas Construction Group.

Olayinka added that discussions will focus on collaboration and strategies to enhance water infrastructure and access in the underserved areas of the FCT.

He recalled that when President Bola Tinubu visited China in September 2024, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and CGCOC Group to improve electricity and water supply in the FCT.

‘President Tinubu advocated for the projects as part of his agenda to renew the hope of FCT residents in the government through the execution of people-oriented projects like the provision of water.

‘In line with this, the President approved ₦50 billion for the provision of potable water in FCT satellite towns.

‘Therefore, in keeping up with the President’s directive that there must be a water supply in satellite towns in Gwagwalada, Kwali and Kuje Area Councils, the minister has embarked on the trip to China for a crucial meeting with the CGCOC Group’, the statement stated.

He said Wike is expected back in Nigeria next week.
