The Nigerian Police Force, Kebbi State Command, has warned residents of the state against the use of fireworks and knockouts during the forthcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations in the state.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar.

Abubakar stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Chris Aimionowane, is committed to maintaining the current peaceful coexistence in the state.

It read, “In his determination to sustain the already existing peaceful atmosphere during the Yuletide season, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Chris Aimionowane, has today, Friday, December 22, 2023, met with the Area Commanders, DPOs, and tactical commanders to strengthen the security architecture around religious and event/recreational centres throughout the length and breadth of the state.

“The CP equally directed them to always collaborate with other relevant security agencies in deploying both human and material arsenals at their disposal to ensure that the purposes of visibility policing, rigorous stop and search, aggressive patrols, raiding of identified black spots, and uncompleted buildings across the nooks and crannies of the state are achieved, thus bringing about the expected conducive atmosphere before, during, and after the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

“While felicitating with the Christian faithful in the state, the CP warns against the use of knockouts, fireworks, or firecrackers during the Yuletide season, as their use may likely cause panic or apprehension in the minds of unsuspecting members of the public.”

The CP, however, appealed to the good people of Kebbi State to continue to cooperate with the police and other security agencies in providing accurate and timely information about the movement of criminals and suspicious persons in their domain to the nearest police station.

“Call the Commissioner of Police on 08033208269; Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations on 08035891167; Deputy Commissioner of Police State CID on 08034756313; or PPRO on 08065159812 for prompt response, please,” the statement concluded.
