It’s six days to go for the second edition of the Consumers Value Awards (CVA), an annual first-of-its-kind award where the consumer is truly the king.

The annual awards, whose winners are decided by the votes of the consumers for product and corporate brands from the perspective of the values they offer, is slated for 7th September at the Ijakadi Hall of Radisson Blu Hotel on Isaac John Street, GRA Ikeja, Lagos. The event starts from 5:30pm.

According to the promoters of the awards, BrandXchange, the theme of this year’s edition is, “Consumer Satisfactory Index”.

CEO of BrandXchange, Mr. Akonte Ekine said that the success of CVA\s maiden edition is positively changing the narratives, and the second edition is expected to consolidate on that.

Ekine, who is also Lead Strategist of Absolute PR Limited, explained that, through the initiative, brand owners have been put on the spotlight by the consumers as the direction of votes speak volumes about the performances of their brands as far as value offerings are concerned.

He expressed delight that the award is achieving the purpose for which it was initiated and that it has come to stay.

Ekine assured all stakeholders of a more robust, bigger and better outing this time around.

In the maiden edition, over 25 brands were rewarded by consumers with the badge of honours as the Best Value for Money brands in various sectors of the economy.

At least four regulators were in attendance last edition. They included the Nigerian Communications Commission, whose Executive Vice Chairman, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta said in his goodwill message that the commission was delighted about the impact awards like CVA have on organisations.

For the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Mr. Babatunde Irukera, it was gratifying that the CVA aims to validate what gives consumers value and address certain misdemeanours in the marketplace.

He added that FCCPC was in support of the Awards on the premise that, in a developing society, it is critically important to help people recognise and demand what is appropriate as he hopes that the CVA could stimulate people’s interest to demand the type of quality they are entitled to in the marketplace.

In her message, the Director General of the National Food Drug Administration Control Agency (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye congratulated Consumers Value Broadcasting Limited on the maiden edition of the award and urged that the efforts be sustained and improved on towards attaining greater heights.

She further said that NAFDAC was proud to be associated with the initiative because it is as a regulatory agency that prides itself in promoting consumer confidence by ensuring that the regulated products for consumer consumption are of good quality, safe and wholesome.

The Registrar of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria, Dr. Lekan Fadolapo corroborated the other regulators in commending the organisers of the award.

He added that as advertising regulator, it is appropriate to ensure that the messages of the product owners match the experiences of the consumers.

“The consumers’ expectation is derived from the messages from the manufacturers and thus the Consumers Value Award is a welcome attempt to also provide feedback to the manufacturers”, he said.
