Nigeria’s Flamingos have arrived in Morocco ahead of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, which begins on October 17.
The Nigerian U-17 women’s team arrived at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca on Wednesday before checking into the Ibis Hotel, where preparations for the tournament will continue.
Head coach Akeem Busari has named a 21-player squad for the competition, with captain Harmony Chidi among the players selected to represent Nigeria.
The Flamingos secured their place at the World Cup after winning the WAFU-B U-17 Girls Cup in Côte d’Ivoire, where they won all five of their matches and scored 17 goals while conceding two.
Nigeria have been drawn in Group B alongside Poland, Puerto Rico and defending champions Korea DPR.
The Flamingos will begin their campaign against Poland on October 17 before facing Puerto Rico on October 20. Their final group-stage match will be against Korea DPR on October 23. FIFA has confirmed that all group-stage fixtures up to the semi-finals will be played at the Women’s Football Complex in Rabat.
Korea DPR are seeking to win the tournament for a third consecutive edition after retaining the title in 2025.
Nigeria finished third at the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup and will be looking to build on that achievement in Morocco.
The tournament will run from October 17 to November 7, with 24 teams competing for the title.
Busari’s side will use the remaining days before their opening fixture to adapt to the conditions in Morocco, fine-tune their tactics and prepare for the challenges of the competition.
The Flamingos will be aiming to progress from Group B and secure a place in the knockout stages.
