The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Julius Ogundiran, has warned about the consequences of neglecting teachers in a nation.

In his address during the 2023 annual celebration of World Teachers’ Day in Abuja, Comrade Ogundiran expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of teacher welfare despite their unique and pivotal contributions to national development.

He stated that the collapse of education is the collapse of a nation, while the neglect of teachers in a nation is the collapse of education.

He also said teachers are the most hardworking, calmest and simplest people to approach on earth.

According to him, teachers need to be celebrated because professional teachers are always patient and carefree, adding that it is high time for teachers to motivate and encourage themselves.

He said, “It is worth knowing that teachers are the most hard-working most punctual, most loyal, calm, obedient and most simple to approach on earth.

“They actually deserve to be celebrated, professional teachers are always patient and care-free. This goes to say that it is high time we motivate and encourage ourselves.

“Self-motivation plays a vital role in our profession and helps to eradicate thinking and sadistic motivation”.

He said to destroy a nation does not need the use of atomic bombs or long-range missiles, but it would only take lowering the standard of education in the country.

Comrade Ogundiran who described teachers as nation builders expressed dissatisfaction with the welfare of teachers despite their unique contributions to national development.
