Suspected bandits have killed the Chief Imam of Talluje village and two other residents during a deadly attack on communities in Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The attack, which reportedly lasted for nearly two hours, targeted Talluje and another community in the Danchadi District, leaving residents in panic as the gunmen shot indiscriminately before fleeing with an unspecified number of rustled livestock.
The latest incident brings to three the number of Chief Imams reportedly killed in the area within the past few weeks, raising fresh concerns over the worsening security situation in the district.
According to a community leader in Danchadi, the attackers struck both communities simultaneously at about 4:00 p.m. and operated until around 6:00 p.m.
“The attacks started around 4:00 p.m. and continued until about 6:00 p.m. The bandits killed the Chief Imam of Talluje and two other persons whose identities have yet to be confirmed,” the community leader told newsmen.
Residents said the assailants escaped before security operatives could intervene, making away with an unspecified number of livestock.
