The Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Jamiu All-Balogun, has recently frowned upon some teachers’ late resumption to school.

Alli-Balogun, who paid unscheduled visits to some schools around the Iganmu, Orile and Surulere areas of the state, also condemned the unkempt environment of the Sari Iganmu Grammar School compound.

In a statement on Thursday, the commissioner charged teachers in the state to keep to the tenet of punctuality,  notwithstanding the economic situation in the country.

“The teachers and students were also enjoined to ensure that the investment of the state government in the education sector continues to yield the desired result”, the statement said.

The commissioner, who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr Abayomi Abolaji, and the directors in the ministry, started the tour from Sari Iganmu Grammar School at 7 am on Wednesday.

He was quoted to have implored the Metropolitan Nursery and Primary School Head to “release excess and unused school furniture to other schools in need of the”.

This, according to him, will help to solve the problem of inadequate furniture in some schools in the area.

At the Government College Lagos, Eric Moore, Mr Alli-Balogun appreciated the clean school environment and directed the schoolteachers to ensure more effective management of the plastic waste in the school.

He also enjoined schools within the same location to co-share facilities such as ICT laboratories donated by individuals or organisations. This, according to the commissioner, will increase the spread of benefits derivable from such facilities.
