Mothers deserve to be celebrated, say cleric, others

The thoughts of motherhood and the values they carry have been described as enormous, and worthy of celebration, commendation and recognition.

At the 2026 National Women’s Ministries Day, the Senior Pastor of the Assemblies of God Church in Umuawa Alaocha, Umuahia North (Jerusalem) District, Rev.  Elijah Irozuru noted that nothing could be compared to the selfless sacrifices and the toiling and labours of love of mothers who patiently nurture their children from the cradle to the Olympian heights of greatness.

He used the forum to salute women who impacted his life and all mothers of the church in Nigeria and in Umuawa Alaocha for their resilience and purposeful service to God.

The leader of the Women Ministries, Rev. (Mrs.) Lozie Elijah-Irozuru thanked God for enabling the women strengthen the bond of unity among them.

Reflecting on the theme of the day, she enjoined Christian women to step out of their comfort zone and rise above challenges with courage and determination.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs Dr. Maureen Aghukwa, commended the unwavering commitment of the Assembly of God’s women to spiritual growth, family development and community transformation.

Mrs. Aghukwa stated that the state government remains committed to creating enabling environment where women can thrive and fulfill their potential.

The guest preacher Rev. Ngozi Akaniro reminded the women that God created them to serve him in spirit and in truth and cautioned them against taking the privilege for granted.

Mrs. Akaniro, who took her text from Zechariah Chapter 4 verses 5-7, encouraged the women to set their priorities right looking unto Jesus for strength to overcome barriers that militate against effective service to God relying on His Grace that makes all things possible to succeed.

The service featured, praise and worship, kingdom dance, playlet and distribution of wrappers to all the women by Irozuru to mark the occasion.

In attendance were a retired Permanent Secretary in the Àbia State Civil Service, Deacon Uzoma Isiakpu, a former state Director of Information, Mrs. Ugochi Ihediwa; and a retired Director of Information in the state public service, Chief Uzomba Ekwuribe.
