Motorists, commuters and residents have appealed to the Ogun State Government to expedite the reconstruction of the second section of the Mowe–Ofada Road, citing growing transportation challenges and safety concerns.
The road users, who spoke in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, commended the government for completing the first phase of the project but urged it to extend the work to the remaining stretch.
They said the uncompleted section had become a major source of hardship, resulting in prolonged traffic delays, frequent vehicle breakdowns and rising transportation costs for residents, workers and businesses.
A commercial driver, Johnson Fadeyi, said the poor condition of the road had reduced the number of trips he could make each day while increasing vehicle maintenance costs.
“We face serious problems on this section of the road, especially when it rains. I appeal to the state government to urgently provide a lasting solution,” he said.
A commuter, Bimpe Olaitan, said passengers endured unnecessary hardship because of the road’s condition, particularly during peak traffic periods and the rainy season.
A transporter, Kadiri Bala, said the deteriorating section had slowed the movement of goods and services, adversely affecting businesses in Mowe, Ofada and neighbouring communities.
He urged the state government to prioritise completion of the project, noting that the road would enhance economic activities and improve connectivity across the area.
Also speaking, a resident, Pastor Sunday Famuyiwa, called on the relevant authorities to intensify palliative repairs on the damaged portions of the road pending full reconstruction.
While expressing confidence in the state government’s commitment to infrastructure development, Famuyiwa appealed for swift intervention to complete the entire project.
According to him, timely completion of the second phase would improve transportation, stimulate economic growth and enhance the quality of life for thousands of residents and commuters who use the corridor daily.
