Former Nigeria head coach Sunday Oliseh has criticised Argentina’s players over their conduct following the team’s 1-0 defeat to Spain in the World Cup final.
Oliseh expressed disappointment over the post-match altercation involving several Argentina and Spain players after the final whistle in New Jersey.
Tensions flared at the end of the match as players and coaching staff from both sides became involved in a confrontation.
Video footage circulating online appeared to show Argentina’s Leandro Paredes and Nahuel Molina striking Spain’s Eric García and Rodri. Argentina assistant coach Roberto Ayala was also seen appearing to hit Spain midfielder Dani Olmo during the incident.
Speaking on the Sunday Oliseh Global Football Insights show, the former Juventus midfielder said Spain’s victory was a positive outcome for the sport.
“Thank God that Spain won the World Cup on Sunday,” Oliseh said.
“I’m saying this in the interest of football because Spain played positive football. The type of football Argentina displayed is a bad advertisement for the game.
“When I saw Argentina’s players fighting after the match had ended, I thought it was unacceptable. You don’t fight your opponents after a World Cup final. I just think it is great that Spain won.”
