Nigerian singer Augustine Kelechi, popularly known as Tekno, has shared his views on how perceptions of love and relationships have changed since the COVID-19 lockdown period, saying he believes love has not been the same since 2020.
Speaking in a recent interview with Cool FM Lagos, the ‘Pana’ hitmaker said the lockdown gave many people more time with their partners and may have caused some to reassess their relationships.
Tekno said he believed some people became emotionally fatigued after spending extended periods with their loved ones, leading to changes in how they viewed relationships.
“I think since after 2020, love is not the same. I think during the lockdown people got to spend time with their lovers and realised, ‘maybe I didn’t love this person as much as I think’,” he said.
The singer also claimed that marriages had become more difficult to sustain since the period, while infidelity had increased.
“If you can’t appreciate the absence then the presence doesn’t really matter. So, I feel like since 2020, people have leaned into not wanting to love as much,” he added.
Tekno further reflected on changes in popular culture, saying love had once been a central theme in films and entertainment but that many modern productions now focus more on trends and publicity.
“There was a time when love was a thing, even our movies revolve around love. But now movies are just clout. It doesn’t feel organic,” he said.
