The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has directed the immediate closure of the Secretariat of the dissolved Ad-hoc Committee on the Sale of Federal Government Houses (SFGH) in the FCT.
The directive was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.
According to the statement, the minister has also approved the creation of a dedicated division within the Department of Land Administration to handle matters relating to the sale of Federal Government Houses in the FCT.
The responsibilities were previously handled by the now-defunct Ad-hoc Committee on the Sale of Federal Government Houses.
The committee had completed its assigned duties, but its secretariat was retained to attend to issues arising from its activities.
However, with the formal closure of the secretariat, members of the public have been directed to henceforth approach the Department of Land Administration for all matters concerning the sale of Federal Government Houses in the FCT.
The FCT Administration also warned residents to be wary of fraudsters who may continue to present themselves as staff, officers or members of the dissolved committee or its secretariat.
It stressed that both the committee and its secretariat no longer exist and urged members of the public to exercise caution when dealing with anyone claiming to represent them.
The development is aimed at providing a clear administrative structure for handling issues relating to the sale of Federal Government Houses in the nation’s capital while preventing fraudulent activities linked to the defunct committee.
